Hike | Leopold Point | Mount Lemmon — Arizona Hikers Guide

This remarkable and easy hike to Leopold Point in Mount Lemmon is one that any level skill hiker in your family can do! The drive itself through Mount Lemmon to San Pedro Vista is filled with some of Tucson’s best landscapes; from cactus to pine trees. There are a dozen of trails along the way, including various lookouts. If you have the time, stop at some of the lookouts for different perspectives of the Tucson area.

There is a decent amount of parking spots at the San Pedro Vista trailhead. You will notice upon arrival that there isn’t clear directional signage indicating the trail. You will encounter this throughout the trail, but know that it’s much more manageable once you get done with the first mile or so.

The trail to Leopold Point is on the left side. From the bat you will have some pretty views of the surrounding area. Follow the trail through some boulders, pine trees and various vegetation. The ascend up is easy – I did it with a 9 -year-old – with plenty of areas to stop at for a quick water or snack break.

Like the drive, the hike itself has a couple of side stops to make the experience more versatile. If time or energy permits, explore the surrounding areas! You will ascend up through some pine trees with the trail going along the left side of the hill. After a few more minutes of climbing through the tree lines you will reach a boulder field. After you have climbed the boulders you will reach Leopold Point! Sit down, take photos, enjoy your snacks and take in the views of the surrounding landmarks like Mount Wrightson, Green Mountain and more!

From the Tucson area navigate on Mount Lemmon Highway to San Pedro Vista.
