Snow Peak Titanium 600 Cup – Arizona Hikers Guide

The Snow Peak Titanium 600 Cup is the largest and most popular ultralight single-walled cup the company makes. Holding 600ml, the mug can easily cook freeze dried meals over an open flame.
After backpacking with a friend who owned (and raved about) this product I decided to purchase my first titanium cup to complete my cook system. I had previously tested two different types of cook systems and was moderately unhappy with them so here I am testing my third option.
- Light 0.4 mm single wall construction
- A smooth lip, compatible with hot lips
- Corrosion-resistant and lightweight titanium

- The weight: At 2.8 ounces the titanium makes this cup very light and very sturdy.
- The size: Your whole cook system can fit inside the cup. Both the Snow Peak Gigapower or Snow Peak Litemax Stove and a 110g fuel canister (I use Snow Peak Giga Power Pro Iso Fuel Gold) can fit inside the cup making it a very compact system.
- The volume: This mug holds 2.5 cups (20 oz.) of liquid which is perfect for a freeze dried meal and a cup of tea. I will boil water, fill up my freeze dried meal and have enough left over for a small cup of tea. It is the perfect size for a solo hiker.
- No metal taste: I was afraid that I would be tasting the nasty tang of metal when I drank from the titanium but that has not been the case. I have used it for several meals as well as tea and water and I have never tasted metal.
- Hot Lips: I purchased my cup from REI and it came with the Hot Lips attachment. Basically this thing is a small, yellow, silicone piece that fits on the side of the rim so you can drink freely without the titanium mug scalding your lips. Although the packaging clearly states not to attach the Hot Lips while heating over an open flame I had to test it to see. Not only did the Hot Lips not melt but it was cool to my lips within seconds.
- No lid: WTF? Where is the lid? I was really disappointed that the cup did not come with a lid. This had an impact on how long it took me to boil water.
- The handles: The handles are awesome and they contour to the sides of the cup wall nicely but the problem is how hot they get over an open flame. I have to use a glove or bandana to hold the cup even minutes after taking it off an open flame.
- Loss of temperature: The problem with the titanium is that although it is light and heats quickly, it also loses it’s temperature quickly. The double walled mugs keep coffee or tea hotter much longer than the single walled cup. That being said, you can always make a cool little foam insulator to keep your cup of tea hot.
This cup rocks. I absolutely love the product and couldn’t be happier. When I first started looking I was turned off by the price. I thought to myself, “$35 bucks for a stupid cup?”. And then I tested it out and is the only piece of cookware I carry. The beauty of this piece of equipment is it’s versatility. I try to carry gear that serves a variety of purposes and this cup does just that. It is a cup, a pot, and a storage compartment.
The Snow Peak Titanium 600 cup is perfect for solo travelers and can even stretch to a 2-man camp. When I hike with my wife this is the only thing we bring so it can easily be done. If you are looking for an affordable, lightweight, and quick cooking option then the Snow Peak Titanium 600 cup may be the right choice for you!
